Petrochemical valves are widely used in crude oil extraction, refining and petrochemical processing, chemical reaction equipment, and oil and gas pipeline transportation. They are employed to control the flow and shut-off of petroleum products, flammable and explosive chemical raw materials, and corrosive media. The chemical industry involves complex and diverse media, characterized by flammability, strong corrosiveness, toxicity, and other properties. Operating conditions span high pressure, low temperature, high temperature, and other varied environments. As critical control nodes in pipelines, valves can easily lead to major safety incidents such as fires and poisoning in case of leakage or failure. Therefore, product safety and sealing integrity are prioritized.

In the petrochemical industry, different media impose entirely distinct performance requirements on valves. When handling highly corrosive acids or alkalis, the valve body and internal components must be made of stainless steel or special alloy materials to resist corrosion. For liquefied petroleum gases or low-temperature raw materials, valves must possess cryogenic resistance to prevent brittle cracking in cold environments. High-pressure pipeline valves require sufficient structural strength to withstand immense pipeline pressure. Many operating conditions also demand fire-resistant designs, ensuring the valve maintains sealing integrity during fires to prevent further medium leakage.
The production of chemical valves adheres to stringent industry standards. Castings and forgings must undergo non-destructive testing to eliminate internal defects. The sealing structure is repeatedly optimized to balance flexible opening and closing with zero leakage requirements. Before leaving the factory, strength tests, gas tightness tests, and fire resistance simulations must be completed. During the selection process, nominal diameter alone should not be the sole consideration—factors such as medium corrosiveness, temperature and pressure, and explosion-proof requirements must be comprehensively evaluated. It is strictly prohibited to directly apply ordinary valves to high-risk chemical operating conditions.
On-site operation and maintenance must not be overlooked. Regularly inspect the valve body for corrosion or perforation and check for medium leakage at the flange position. Avoid violent switching of the valve to prevent damage to the sealing surface. For valves left stationary for extended periods, periodic opening and closing tests should be conducted to prevent clogging caused by medium scaling. When disassembling valves during equipment maintenance, it is advisable to replace the sealing gaskets and packing simultaneously. Proper selection and routine maintenance can reduce leakage risks and ensure the stable and safe operation of the entire petrochemical production process.
